Meet Your Community Manager: Calista Rollogas

Ever wonder who the people behind the curtain are here at Higher Logic? We're introducing you to our three community managers. They’ll talk about why they love community management, helpful resources to use and weigh in on the dog versus cat debate (as you can see, this is serious stuff…).

In this second installment, we’re introducing another community manager, Calista Rollogas.

Q. What excites you about community management?

A: I love watching the magic that happens when people are able to get together and share knowledge and expertise. Learning from each other’s experiences helps fellow industry colleagues avoid potholes, and propels the entire industry forward in a way that no individual otherwise could. Watching this blossoming of people and industries is what really excites me about community management.

Q. How did you get into community management?

A: I originally went to school for public relations and advertising. Over the years, the industry grew and morphed to include social media, digital marketing and community management. Through trying new tactics and embracing new technology to engage with customers and prospects, I stumbled onto community management and haven’t looked back since. But I also think it was my deep love for all things data and analytics that helped steer me towards community management. One of the reasons I was especially drawn to Higher Logic was that they cater to the data nerd in me. The depth of information and metrics they allow community managers to access quickly and easily really gets my heart pumping.


Q. Favorite community management resource?

A: Aside from the handy-dandy resources that Higher Logic provides, of course, one of my favorite go-to places for great community management resources is The Community Roundtable. On top of the insightful blogs they publish on a regular basis, they also put out really great pieces of research. No longer is community management a vague, amorphous concept. It is now backed by research, science and data.

Q. What's your favorite book?

I’m a fairly avid reader so I’m not sure I can say I have a favorite book, but I’m happy to share what I’m currently reading. Right now, I’m going through “Malcom X: A Life of Reinvention” by Manning Marable. I wanted to get a deeper understanding of Malcom X and his philosophies, especially since there seems to be a resurgence of his teachings in recent times.


Q. Dog or cat? (Or neither?!)

I actually don’t have any pets but have somehow become the designated pet sitter for all of my friends. So after experiencing both for extended periods of time, I can actually say that I appreciate both cats and dogs. I love the playful and loving personalities of dogs, but I love the independence and self-confidence of cats.

With a passion for data and analytics, she can often be found sifting through metrics, searching for deeper insights and relevant trends for her clients. Calista joined Higher Logic from a boutique digital marketing firm and brings with her an understanding of the needs and challenges of both the corporate and non-profit worlds when it comes to connecting with customers and members.
