Ever wonder who the people behind the curtain are here at Higher Logic? We're introducing you to our three community managers. They’ll talk about why they love community management, helpful resources to use and weigh in on the dog versus cat debate (as you can see, this is serious stuff…).
In this third installment, we’re introducing our final community manager, Lindsay Starke.
A: I love community management because I am fascinated about what makes human beings—the complex social animals that we are—tick. The ideal community manager is a generalist: equal parts sympathizer and Svengali. I don’t know how anyone could not be excited by it!
A: My most reliable tactic has become part of the Higher Logic playbook: the good old "introduce yourself here" post. No matter what the community is about, giving members a place where they can share something so simple consistently engages them at that crucial first moment.
A: There are plenty of great CM resources, but I find myself going back to basics: "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. Everything else is secondary.
A: My favorite book is “The Illuminatus! Trilogy” by Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea. I read it for the first time when I was 14. In retrospect, that explains a lot. Fnord.
A: I am such a dog person. My goofy little pup, Junebug, even has her own Twitter account at @love2chasefrogs.
Lindsay is a Community Manager at Higher Logic. In this role, she both manages the Higher Logic Users Group and was the first provider of Community Management Services to Higher Logic clients who want to get the most out of their online communities. Previously, she herself was a Higher Logic client while at Professional Photographers of America, where the community she managed was awarded “Community of the Year” in 2014 for its high level of engagement.
