CASE, ILTA and SPE Chat About Online Community Engagement Success

Written by Lauren Wolfe | on September 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM

Online Engagement SuccessClients of Higher Logic and Personify came together last week to discuss the best ways to take advantage of both platforms, and to increase community activity and communication. Currently, over 47 mutual association clients have utilized the Personify Gold Star Integration and Activity Sync back to their databases to offer single-sign-on, secure data exchange and find new engagement opportunities for their online communities.

We invited The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA), and the Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE) to join us for a live demonstration of their solutions and candidly share their integration experiences. Adam, Jeanne and Liz shared their most impactful decisions.

Using Member Type For a New Interactive Space

Adam Rosenbaum, CASE

Adam asserted the community platform is a superior interactive space to CASE's old staff intranet and listservs. Specifically, the member type connection made between database and community provides immediate engagement opportunities without compromising private information or discussions.

Using Import Utility For Creating Events and More

Jeanne Martinez, ILTA

With 17,000 active user accounts and close to 50 communities, ILTA has made the best out of community automation and writing back activity, to build awareness and increase engagement for members. They've frequently utilized import utility when creating events and master calendars. Admins also make sure to auto-subscribe members for all committees and event registrations.

Using Microsites For Multiple Chapters and Sections

Liz Messner, Society of Petroleum Engineers

Liz's organization has a primary goal: disseminate technical information to and from its members. They built microsites for all of their local sections, chapters and committees, and added members to each through Personify using technical interest records and unique committee codes. The join/un-join process was also managed within Personify so that all community data was constantly updated.

Online Communities Need Care and Attention

It's more than if you build, they will come. The thought leaders touted Higher Logic and Personify as a best of breed partnership. They mentioned that working with software companies who have best practices and users groups was essential to their growth. In particular, they strongly advised beta testing before launch. Essentially hold a soft launch, and get the whole team involved. Also ask volunteer leaders and enlist early adopters to give feedback and help facilitate engagement.

During the webinar, we asked attendees: What is your biggest membership challenge? The most common responses were retaining and finding new members, with 62 percent of attendees participating. Is your organization facing similar membership challenges?
