It is the association industry's deepest look into trends, tools, and tactics. This year over 900 associations participated, making the 2015 Membership Marketing Benchmarking Report one of the strongest narratives to date on how to grow membership.

At Higher Logic, we analyzed the data and saw connections between the report's findings and the role that private online member communities play in associations.

We have been involved with ASAE, the "association of association executives," for over 12 years. During this period, we have come across countless resources that inform and shape our approach to online communities. 

Their latest publications are no exception. ASAE Press recently published The Demand Perspective: Leading from the Outside In by Anna Caraveli, PhD.

The book investigates the deficit that exists within a lot of associations when it comes to membership management. Caraveli interviewed over 40 association leaders that were struggling to define their association's role in constantly evolving, and often unforgiving, markets. Every association had the same goals and questions.

You can mitigate that stress by having a collection of competent, trustworthy people who you can call to get the job is fixed in a reasonable timeframe and at a reasonable price.

I recently moved across the country to an area where I have never lived and wasn't familiar with the local service providers. When I moved into our new house and it needed a half-dozen jobs done, the stress mounted.

Moving to a New Online Community Platform: Simple Ways to Avoid Missteps

We have migrated platforms ranging from large communities built on Jive and Lithium to communities built on basic software systems like Ning.  We've moved data from antiquated listserv platforms into full online communities and imported community data from home-grown community platforms or forum tools.

Despite the successful outcomes, migrating from one online community platform to another is never a completely straightforward process.
